The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that focused exclusively on the upcoming animated film.

The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Iconic Releases

Similar to the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.

Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

All-Star Vocal Ensemble Come Back and Grow

The feature will see the return of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Significant Period for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases officially announced for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
